It’s funny how baseball works sometimes. It appears that all in the same week Manny Pina will get demoted to AA Northwest Arkansas from the AAA Omaha Storm Chasers and now be called up to the Kansas City Royals. Matt Treanor got hammered in a collision at home plate in Cleveland and was almost immediately put on the 7 day disabled list meaning the Royals needed a second catcher.
Manny Pina reportedly left his AA game in Springfield minutes later indicating that he was trying to catch a plane to Cleveland for the series finale between the Royals and Indians. I’m excited to see him at the big league level even though it appears Salvador Perez has passed him in the chain of players ready for the Royals at the catcher position. Pina is already on the 40 man roster so it makes perfect sense that he will be joining the team.
So apparently tonight the Royals minor-league system attempted another no-hitter and it looks like this one is going to count. Will Smith threw 7 innings of no-hit ball tonight against Arkansas. Kevin Herrera finished the last two innings to complete the no-hitter. A big congratulations to Herrera and Smith.
According to Naturals outfielder Wil Myers’ twitter account there was a triple play as well.
This comes just a day after the Omaha Storm Chasers had a no-hitter taken away by the official scorer minutes after the game ended. Luis Mendoza pitched 8 no-hit innings for the second straight time Monday before giving up a hit in the 9th inning. It was initially ruled an error but later changed to a hit to take away the accomplishment from Mendoza.

Here are a couple more re-posts of my futures game cards. These two who pitched for Omaha in that game in early April wouldn’t have to wait very long before returning to Kansas City.
Many times I feel like I post things on my site too quickly and people don’t have a chance to find them. I like keeping up a high turnover on the site so there is something new hopefully almost every time a visitor comes to my site. Because of this I feel like some of my cards get overlooked.
I dug out this Mike Moustakas card to post today because lets face it, everything is about Mike Moustakas right now. I have done this a couple times so far I might make it a regular feature, call it “flashback” or “In Case You Missed It.”
This card of Moose is from the Royals futures game on April 2nd 2011 at Kauffman Stadium. I attended the game an was likely more excited for it than any Royals game in a very long time. I made a complete set to commemorate the game. It is another original design, I will re-post several of these in the coming weeks.

This is a set of cards from the April 2nd game at Kauffman Stadium between the Northwest Arkansas Naturals and the Omaha Storm Chasers. It was billed as the “Royals Futures Game.” It drew a lot of interest because of how good the Royals farm system is right now.
All of the pictures you will see in this set will be from one of two sources; The Kansas City Star slideshow from the game or from Royals Corner. A very gracious gentleman named Dave from the Royals corner posted many pictures from the game and was cool enough to allow me to use them to make my set.
The photo credits for this set are as follows:
Royals Corner: Van Stratten, Bianchi, Cain, Perez, Keating, Pina, Robinson, Sisk, Mongomery(MVP), Seratelli, Zawadzki, Romak, Falu
KC Star Slideshow: Myers, Colon, Lough, Hosmer, Chavez, Coleman, Montgomery, Dwyer, Moustakas, Duffy, Smith, Blanco, Giavotella
