Northwest Arkansas Naturals set… Christian Colon custom card   Leave a comment

I’ve done a couple 1988 Topps custom cards lately and it just so happened that I stumbled across some good pictures several Northwest Arkansas Naturals players. I made one and tweaked the colors to get it where I liked it and things snowballed from there. It was as simple as the Northwest Arkansas Naturals facebook page having a lot of good pictures on it. It provided me with a place to pick up all the pictures without looking really hard as you often have to do with minor league pictures. So I got the templates ready and made a complete team set. Obviously a lot of players go through a AA team during the year so I didn’t get them all but I tried to get the core team.

I ended up with about a 25 card set, I plan on posting them in bunches over the next few day because I tend to lose interest and not post all the cards so I want to get them on the site quickly. So here is the first card, the card I started with actually… Christian Colon.

Custom Card of the Day: Wil Myers   Leave a comment

Wil Myers may be the bright spot of the Royals organization at any level right now. Here is an old custom card I did of him last year.Royals Futures Game Wil Myers custom card

Salvador Perez gets the call!   Leave a comment

Royals Futures Game Salvador PerezSalvador Perez 2011 Topps custom card

I can’t even imagine the excitement when a baseball player gets the call to the big leagues. Salvador Perez got the call last night and I heard he said he couldn’t talk for 2 hours. This is a shocking call-up to me. I am very excited about it. Here are a couple cards I have made of Perez so far. Tonight he will get his major league debut card as I have done for the other 10 Royals to make their major league debut this year.

Manny Pina to get the call to the big leagues   Leave a comment

It’s funny how baseball works sometimes. It appears that all in the same week Manny Pina will get demoted to AA Northwest Arkansas from the AAA Omaha Storm Chasers and now be called up to the Kansas City Royals. Matt Treanor got hammered in a collision at home plate in Cleveland and was almost immediately put on the 7 day disabled list meaning the Royals needed a second catcher.

Manny Pina reportedly left his AA game in Springfield minutes later indicating that he was trying to catch a plane to Cleveland for the series finale between the Royals and Indians. I’m excited to see him at the big league level even though it appears Salvador Perez has passed him in the chain of players ready for the Royals at the catcher position. Pina is already on the 40 man roster so it makes perfect sense that he will be joining the team.

Will Smith! A Royals No-Hitter (official scorer pending of course)   Leave a comment

Royals Futures Game Will SmithSo apparently tonight the Royals minor-league system attempted another no-hitter and it looks like this one is going to count. Will Smith threw 7 innings of no-hit ball tonight against Arkansas. Kevin Herrera finished the last two innings to complete the no-hitter. A big congratulations to Herrera and Smith.

According to Naturals outfielder Wil Myers’ twitter account there was a triple play as well.

This comes just a day after the Omaha Storm Chasers had a no-hitter taken away by the official scorer minutes after the game ended. Luis Mendoza pitched 8 no-hit innings for the second straight time Monday before giving up a hit in the 9th inning. It was initially ruled an error but later changed to a hit to take away the accomplishment from Mendoza.
