Cool Larry Gura facts: Gura Finished in the top 10 in AL Cy Young voting 3 out of 4 years (1978, 1980, 1981) and won 10 or more games for 7 straight years for the Royals (1978-1984)

History of Joakim Soria: 2008 Topps 1 comment
Joakim Soria hasn’t been on the mound this year but the History of Joakim Soria project lives on. This installment is 2008 Topps. Topps went back to the classic white border after the 2007 Topps black border cards. The card is very playful with the lettering at the top in the multi-colored circles. The border is large and takes a ton of room away from the picture on the card. The signature is a nice touch that I always liked but this card design ranks pretty low on my list of Topps’ designs.
36 Greatest Royals of All-Time: Al Cowens Leave a comment
What is the best way to be a Royals fan right now? Concentrate on the great past instead of the dismal present.
This is the list of the 36 Greatest Royals so far in no particular order:
- Hal McRae
- Zack Greinke
- Willie Wilson
- Paul Splittorff
- Jeff Montgomery
- Mike Sweeney
- Dennis Leonard
- David Dejesus
- Cookie Rojas
- Amos Otis
- Al Cowens
Cool Al Cowens fact: Finished second in the 1977 AL MVP voting and won a gold glove that same year. He had 23 Home Runs, 112 RBI and batted .312 while throwing out 14 runners from the outfield.

Custom Card of the Day: Wil Myers Leave a comment
Wil Myers may be the bright spot of the Royals organization at any level right now. Here is an old custom card I did of him last year.

Custom card of the day: Mike Moustakas Leave a comment
Things have gotten stale here at AHairOffSquare, not enough time to do interesting things on the website. This is very frustrating but I’m glad to have the occasional outlet to make something cool. Here is a custom card of Mike Moustakas that I like quite a lot. I was challenged by Justin who does some cool card related stuff over at his website to re-create an autograph card he thought was cool. This is what I came up with and I really like it. It was nice to create something again… I really haven’t had any new designs in months so this was a nice refresher.

Custom Card of the Day: Mike Moustakas 1979 Topps Leave a comment
Mike Moustakas is having the year the Royals were hoping for, the only problem is several of his teammates aren’t. Here is a 1979 Topps custom card of Moustakas.
Why 1979 Topps? Well I got some love from a 1979 Topps blog. Larry over at http://1979topps.blogspot.com/ selected my little custom card blog as his Royals blog for posting a nice Steve Mingori card. He gives a nice review of the card and some extensive background. Go over to his site and check it out.
