2011 MINK North Champion Mustangs: Adam Maddox   Leave a comment

2011 Mustangs Adam MaddoxThe Mustangs are officially the 2011 MINK North division champions! They clinched that status tonight with a 6-2 win over the Clarinda A’s. The Mustangs have won just under 75% of their games this year and currently hold a 7 game lead as they have the division clinched.

The game featured a looming storm that threatened the game most of the night but never delayed it. It wasn’t 10 after the game before the skies broke open and started to pour, but the Mustangs had already taken care of business. The game itself was largely uneventful. The Mustangs took a 6-0 lead to the 9th inning behind a brilliant start by Cody Cunningham. After a rough start to the 9th the Mustangs closed things out with Doug Shields. Shields only faced 2 batters but had a key part in the game.

Shields faced the tying run twice in his 2/3 of an inning, getting a strikeout and popout to end the game. With Clarinda having the momentum in their favor with one out shield struck out a pinch hitter with an absolutely nasty breaking ball. The Mustangs took all the momentum away with that pitch.

Adam Maddox get the card tonight because everybody who had a large part in tonight’s game has already had a card posted. Maddox will play a huge roll in the postseason for the team as he did so well last year.

2011 Mustangs: Kris Koerper   Leave a comment

2011 Mustangs Kris KoerperThe Mustangs finished their long homestand with another big win. This time they defeated the Joplin Outlaws 18-1. Several Mustangs had big wins in the route. Kyle Jackson picked up the win and Jordan Guida drove in 4 runs. I’m posting Kris Koerper’s card today because of the way he heated up on this homestand. He finished the string of games with a 3-5 performance raising his MINK league average to an impressive .296.

No surprise that it was another good game from Cameron, MO’s own Brent Seifert, he was 3-4 with 2 RBI. Shortstop Spiker Helms went 4-4 and has jumped his average all the way up to .336. This is a huge improvement from his average last year with the Mustangs which I believe was well under .250. Mark Robinette also put together a multi-hit and multi-RBI game with 2 of each.

With the Clarinda A’s losing their last two games, the Mustangs have stretched their lead in the division to 6.5 games. With just 8 games left on the Mustangs schedule, they could wrap up the division early next week. The Mustangs have had two successful seasons in St. Joseph but have yet to win a division title.

2011 Mustangs: Mark Robinette   Leave a comment

2011 Mustangs Mark RobinetteMark Robinette has been a very good addition for the Mustangs this season. Last night he had a huge game winning pinch-hit 2-run single against Clarinda. He is batting .318 overall. He doesn’t play every day because of Brent Seifert at third base. Oh yeah, he pitches too. So far Robinette has yet to give up a run in 11 1/3 innings pitched this year and is allowing less than one base-runner per inning on the mound.

2011 St Joe Mustangs Spiker HelmsSpiker Helms had a huge 3 run double tonight to lead the Mustangs to a victory of Clarinda 6-4. Helms’ double came with the team down 2 runs and put them up 1 for a lead they would not relinquish.
