Billy Butler was named AL Player of the Week today. This is a big honor because the team was terrible during that stretch. While his numbers weren’t staggering (.458 average, 1 HR, 6 RBI) they were still impressive. He continues to be a great hitter and a rare bright spot for the Kansas City Royals. The picture with the facebook article was cool so it inspired me to do a custom card. I thought since his hand was higher than his head it would make a nice 1988 card so it would break into the team name at the top.

Wil Myers may be the bright spot of the Royals organization at any level right now. Here is an old custom card I did of him last year.

Things have gotten stale here at AHairOffSquare, not enough time to do interesting things on the website. This is very frustrating but I’m glad to have the occasional outlet to make something cool. Here is a custom card of Mike Moustakas that I like quite a lot. I was challenged by Justin who does some cool card related stuff over at his website to re-create an autograph card he thought was cool. This is what I came up with and I really like it. It was nice to create something again… I really haven’t had any new designs in months so this was a nice refresher.
Mike Moustakas is having the year the Royals were hoping for, the only problem is several of his teammates aren’t. Here is a 1979 Topps custom card of Moustakas.
Why 1979 Topps? Well I got some love from a 1979 Topps blog. Larry over at http://1979topps.blogspot.com/ selected my little custom card blog as his Royals blog for posting a nice Steve Mingori card. He gives a nice review of the card and some extensive background. Go over to his site and check it out.

A huge congratulations is in order for longtime Royals minor leaguer Irving Falu on finally getting to the major league team. He made his Kansas City Royals and Major League debut on May 6, 2012 and got a triple in his first career at bat. I was pulling for Falu to be the Royals utility man in spring training but the team had signed veteran Yuniesky Betancourt to fill that roll. An injury to Betancourt allowed Falu the big opportunity and he made the most of it.
At A Hair Off Square that means a major league debut card, I have often called it my favorite set and it is still true. I love the card design and how exclusive the players on the cards are. Here is Irving Falu’s card.

I like the Matt Cassel 1978 Topps football card I did so I wanted to make it into a baseball card. I like the way it turned out and I think I may do a few more of them later. I think it could actually make a really nice whole set.
