Justin Verlander is just awesome. He pitched 8 shutout innings today on his way to his 24th win. He only gave up 3 hits and lowered his season ERA to 2.29. He is a lock for the Cy Young award already. It will be interesting to see him in the playoffs this year.

36 Greatest Royals: Zack Greinke Leave a comment
Alright, it is a little strange writing an article about how great Zack Greinke was and how he is one of the 36 greatest Royals players of all time. It is weird because he is still pitching for the Milwaukee Brewers. Whatever he does for the Brewers won’t tarnish his up and down career as a Kansas City Royal.
In 2009 he pretty much clinched the status as a Royals great by winning a Cy Young award on a terrible team. He consistently got poor run support and was almost unhittable all season. He posted 16 wins and more importantly a 2.17 ERA. This even came after a season where he almost left baseball and pitched in just 3 games. He then resurrected his career in the Kansas City bullpen and became a dominant starter. He only posted 60 wins in his 7 seasons in Kansas City but still was one of only a couple bright spots for those teams shortly after the turn of the century.
Custom Card of the Day: Justin Verlander 1982 Topps 1 comment
As a Royals fan it really hurts to say this; but I really like Justin Verlander. The guy is flat out dominant. He just posted his 21st win and could end up with about 24 before seasons end. He is a strikeout machine and pitches deep into games consistently. He throws right at 100 MPH fastball in the 1st inning and he throws 100 MPH fastballs in the 9th inning too. He has spectacular stamina and is on his way to a Cy Young Award this year.
I like doing 1982 Topps cards because it gives me a chance to ad players signatures to the cards. I usually find a nice clean signature and trace it onto the card in Illustrator. It isn’t the easiest task usually but I have been thoroughly thrilled with the results each time. The only thing I don’t like about these cards is the color scheme. I complained about 1983 Topps not matching team colors too but it just seems obvious to make a card with the colors of the team portrayed. That is why I made this variant with my color choices too.
Custom Card of the Day: 1999 Topps Jair Jurrjens Leave a comment
Jair Jurrjens is leading the National League in both wins(12) and ERA(2.26) right now. Those are great numbers and should put him right in the running for the NL Cy Young award until Tim Lincecum starts to get hot. Jurrjens has been a huge reason why the Atlanta Braves are currently leading the NL wild card. It would be great to see Chipper Jones make the playoffs one last time. He will go down as a truely historic player so it would be good to see him on that kind of stage again.
Jurrjens gets the custom card of the day today simply because I don’t know who he is and don’t think I have seen him pitch. I am an AL guy so that hurts me seeing guys like this. Hopefully I will get to see him pitch in October.
