This is the Zach Greinke card I posted yesterday except I fixed one small mistake on my part. I put the foul pole on the wrong side. I keep in mind the foul pole of these cards when I am cropping the photos and I planned on having it on the right but happened to put it on the left. I like the card much better this way. It is a nice sample from the set.

History of Joakim Soria: 1990 Topps 1 comment
I’ll start off by saying that I think I really nailed this one. I think it looks really good. I used a .jpg for the purple border, something that I haven’t done on any other card so far. There are a couple of years where this will be unavoidable. The ones that will need this are 1990, 1987 and 1968 that I can think of. The picture I found seems to fit really well. These are a cheap looking card in my opinion, they look like they are printed on a printer at home. Those things make this set kind of cool.
I am a little disappointed in the amount of my posts lately and how slowly my Just Fair checklist is growing so I am making a commitment to do 10 new cards tomorrow. The most I have done in a day is 10 so far. I did the entire Phillies and Giants rotations all in one day a little over a week ago. I’ll see if I can follow through.
2011 Just Fair: Zack Greinke, Troy Tulowitzki and Miguel Tejada 2 comments
No rhyme or reason here, just more cards to add to the set. I wanted to do a Greinke pretty bad for some reason, maybe I secretly still like the guy. I think this may be the first mention of him since the trade which oddly coincided with the creation of this website. Maybe the Greinke card is because I am thinking about the trade a lot right now. I think I am ready to jump on the Lorenzo Cain needs to be called up bandwagon, we’ll see after tonight’s game in the Bronx, it will have to be a chatty post.
Troy Tulowitzki is a monster, he is really good, it is hard not to like a guy like him. Miguel Tejada is random, I was just shocked to see the Giants were playing him primarily at shortstop still. At this point in his career I would think he is definitely third base material, if not DH.
2011 Just Fair: Mother’s Day; Carlos Beltran and Hanley Ramirez Leave a comment
I wanted to do something related to Mother’s Day and didn’t quite know what to do. I thought about trying something about players’ moms but quickly realized that would be way too hard and not make a lot of sense. Then I thought about what baseball does, the pink bat. I could just do a couple of my Just Fair 2011 cards and use pictures of pink bats.
This would actually involve breaking a personal rule of mine. I like to use current pictures. This was something I envisioned when I started my Just Fair set. I wanted to use almost all pictures from the current year and mostly pictures from within a couple days of when I post the cards. I wouldn’t be able to get pink bat pictures from 2011 unless I wait until late in the day I think, so I decided to use pictures from the last couple years. I just needed to be sure all the players were still on the same team.
So here is my tribute to Mother’s Day. Pink Bats to benefit breast cancer which has become a tradition now. I like the idea and the fact that it is special to Mother’s Day and I really hope it continues.
History of Joakim Soria: 1999 Topps Leave a comment
It’s been a couple day since a “History of Joakim Soria” installment and since he got a win today I though I would post one. 1999 Topps is today’s victim. A really simple design, all one color and no logo. I think the picture of Soria in the old Monarchs uniform fits well here. I was surprised to find it. It is nice to see something different since I have to come up with 61 years worth of pictures of the guy.
His name is obscured by the crowd, you can’t really read it. This was actually an issue with this set in my opinion. Too much of the one color. It was a nice simple one to re-create however, probably the easiest I have done.
2011 Just Fair: Eric Hosmer 3 comments
Wow, so this is really happening. Eric Hosmer is coming to Kansas City. He has been hammering the ball in Omaha and Kila has been far from impressive in Kansas City so they have switched spots for now. This call-up is one of the most exciting events in recent Royals history.
I think Eric Hosmer is ready to play in the major leagues. I am less sure than I was that Kila Ka’aihue was ready though. Can Hosmer do a whole lot worse that Kila though? Probably not statistically. The other side of the coin is what we need to consider. What if Hosmer does match what Kila has done so far. Will Royals fans be calling for him to go to Omaha too?
The long term effects of the possibility of Hosmer failing are unknown. It is a strong possibility though, the Major Leagues are filled with much better players than at Triple-A; just ask Kila Ka’aihue. If Hosmer does good it could be a tremendous boost to the Kansas City Royals this year. He is not however adressing their main need; starting pitching.
If the Royals called up Eric Hosmer in an attempt to contend for a division title this year the starting pitching needs some help too. I think he will help the offense, with that said, it was the wrong call-up in my opinion.
The Omaha Storm Chasers had two first basemen doing well this year. Clint Robinson has major power and has crushed eight Home Runs this year. He could easily be the odd man out if Hosmer does well. Since the call-up of Eric Hosmer I am officially catorgorizing Clint Robinson as trade bait. Maybe we can get some starting pitching out of him.
Much has been said of how young this Royals team is. I think the greatest advantage of that is that maybe these young guys aren’t expecting to lose as Royals of the last about 20 years have. They might not know how to win yet but they don’t know how to lose either. Is this a push toward the playoffs in Kansas City? Why not? Let’s go for it, the AL Central is really weak and who knows what could happen. That being said; starting pitching needs fixed. Kyle Davies should be a bullpen guy in my opinion and Sean O’Sullivan is likely no better than a spot starter. You can’t convince me that Bruce Chen will continue to pitch well the rest of the year and Luke Hochevar and Jeff Francis are mid to end of the rotation guys. How’s that for a reality check?
All this being said(I know I am all over the place on this post); I am excited as hell about this. What is attendance going to be like for this weekend series against Oakland? It could be huge! See you at the K!
2011 Just Fair: Max Scherzer Leave a comment
Max Scherzer shut out the Yankees tonight. Probably a career highlight for him, rightfully so. The Yankees payroll is equal to about 7 or 8 other teams I think, maybe more. This means they should be good. I hate the Yankees and I wish them nothing but the worst of luck but with the amount of talent they have they should be winning games.
Scherzer absolutely knocked them on their ass tonight which delighted me. Scherzer is even out of Mizzou and this game will do more for me being a fan of his than that. Anyone who makes that bunch of overpaid losers look foolish is alright by me.
Congrats Max, here is Just Fair 2011’s tribute to you.

Just Fair 2011; David Dejesus, Rick Ankiel and Yuniesky Betancourt Leave a comment
Former Royals today; One I miss, one I don’t and seeing one in another uniform makes me do the happy dance. I’ll simplify this, I will always like David Dejesus and I will call it right now, he will be a Royal again someday. I would love to see him as a veteran fourth outfielder in about five years as the Royals are making a playoff run. A man can dream can’t he?
I don’t miss Rick Ankiel. He was pretty much a dick when he was in KC. He was an ok player but he had less than 100 at bats as a Royal and spent more time on the DL than in the outfield. Now to the good one: Yuniesky Betancourt is a Milwaukee Brewer. I couldn’t stand seeing him come up in a key situation with a man on third and less than two outs and swing at a bunch of junk above his eyeballs. Alcides Escobar can hit .222 all year if he plays defense like he has; I don’t miss Yuni’s bat at all.
