Here are a couple of guys who are working their way back to the Royals. Aviles and Tejada are both currently not on the major league roster.

2011 Mustangs: Spiker Helms Leave a comment
Spiker Helms had a huge 3 run double tonight to lead the Mustangs to a victory of Clarinda 6-4. Helms’ double came with the team down 2 runs and put them up 1 for a lead they would not relinquish.

1983 Topps Royals: Felipe Paulino Leave a comment
The had got to be Felipe Paulino’s first Royals card. He was an add on to the Royals team this year but has pitched as well or better than anyone that has been in the rotation.
Danny Duffy Major League Debut custom card Leave a comment
Danny Duffy was the a high profile major league debut for the Kansas City Royals against the Texas Rangers in Kauffman Stadium on May 18, 2011. He started the game and went 4 innings giving up 2 runs on 4 hits and striking out 4. Duffy did have control problems in that game which was his downfall giving him a high pitch count quickly as he walked 6 batters in his 4 innings. He would not figure in the decision.
Eric Hosmer Major League Debut custom card Leave a comment
Eric Hosmer made the most high profile major league debut for the Royals this season. It came in Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City on May 8, 2011 against the Oakland Athletics. He went 0-2 with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts, one of which was a called third strike that clearly was a ball. He also stole a base in that game and started a nice double play as well.

Mike Moustakas Major Legue Debut card Leave a comment
I whipped up this design a couple weeks ago for a local professional team named the St. Joe Mustangs and really enjoyed the design. I liked it so much that I decided I had to figure out a way to do something with the Royals in this design. I combined this design with an idea I had for my “2011 Just Fair” set. I thought about making a special parallel/short print type variation with a different picture of the player and their Major League debut on the front of the card. I saw the black line at the bottom of this card and the puzzle pieces really fell right into place.
So I made the set. The set consisted of 6 cards until tonight (Eric Hosmer, Danny Duffy, Everett Teaford, Louis Coleman, Tim Collins and Aaron Crow) and those cards will get posted soon. I decided that the next player to make his Major League debut for the Kansas City Royals would be the launch of this little subset I came up with. It just so happened that it was Mike Moustakas.
For the record Moustakas went 1-3 with a broken bat single(Nick Scott reference not intended) and a walk and run. I predicted 1-3 with a double and a walk and a strikeout with an RBI. I was close.
This is an idea I am proud of and think I would like to continue, possibly for years. I would reserve these cards for only those who made their Major League debut for the Royals from now on. For instance, Lorenzo Cain would not fit in the set because he has logged time with the Brewers. If someone like Iriving Falu would happen to get called up to spell Alcides Escobar, he would get a card in this set. Over the next couple weeks I will occasionally slip one of these cards in as my Custom Card of the Day.
1983 Topps Eric Hosmer custom card 2 comments
Alright, this is my favorite card from my 1983 Topps tribute Royals set. I think it is a great shot of the hot young rookie for the Royals. Hosmer had his first career walk-off hit today so I figured it was only fitting to post this card. Hopefully this win will slingshot the Royals back into playing decent baseball again. Oh yeah, don’t look now but this was a 3rd consecutive really good outing for Joakim Soria. Please don’t rush to get him back to the closers role though, make sure he is comfortable before that happens.
