1984 Donruss: Luke Hochevar custom card 3 comments
I’m going to Kauffman Stadium today to see Luke Hochevar take on the Detroit Tigers. I’m hoping I see the best of Hochevar. It is still frustrating as a Royals fan that Hochevar is so inconsistent. He show flashes of being a number 2-3 in the rotation guy but other times looks like a borderline major league ballplayer. The most frustrating for me personally is when he pitches about 5 2/3 innings and hits a wall and can’t get an out. That is the time when really knowing how to pitch pays off; when your stuff starts to fail you.
Notes on the card: I am making this 1984 Donruss Royals set and I believe I have now posted 3 cards from it. My concept is to do an entirely powder blue picture set. I think this is the first one I have posted that is a sideways card. I think this design works really well in the landscape format. The original set didn’t have any landscape cards but I wanted to add them to my set. I think they look extremely good.
Histroy of Joakim Soria: 1966 Topps Leave a comment
1966 Topps is not the most thrilling of cards. It is very plain and simple, which isn’t always bad. Topps has had a ton of memorable designs, this is not one of them. There just doesn’t seem to be anything really distinct about the card design. I’m not calling it bad, just boring.

History of Joakim Soria: 1984 Topps 5 comments
It has been way too long since my last “History of Joakim Soria” post. I have a lot more years ready to go I just get distracted with my other projects and don’t get them posted enough. This post is dedicated to 1984 Topps. Definitely one of Topps classic designs but I am not a huge fan of it. I actually consider it the retarded cousin of 1983 Topps. 1983 Topps had a smooth, curvy design with the nice inset picture and Topps tried to go back to the same design template and just square things up. It ends up being too rigid in my opinion. I also do not like the font for the team name or the pink background behind the mugshot. I’ve picked on it enough, it is still a classic Topps design no matter my opinion. I like the picture here and how it fits on the card, I’ve often said how much I like pictures that are a little unusual and this one fits the bill. Look for another “History of Joakim Soria” installment soon.

1983 Topps Royals: Felipe Paulino Leave a comment
The had got to be Felipe Paulino’s first Royals card. He was an add on to the Royals team this year but has pitched as well or better than anyone that has been in the rotation.
