Custom Card of the Day: Hosmer / Moustakas1971 Topps Rookie Stars   1 comment

Eric Hosmer / Mike Moustakas 1971 Topps Rookie Stars custom cardI recently picked up a couple Paul Splittorff rookie cards and immediately thought of doing this with the design. Splittorff’s rookie was the nice black 1971 Topps set. He was on a dual rookie stars card with Jerry Cram. I couldn’t resist the urge to do this card with Mike Moustakas and Eric Hosmer. Right now Hosmer is a lot more of a rookie star than Moustakas but they are both everyday players in the major leagues and are well deserving of this card.

Eric Hosmer Major League Debut custom card   Leave a comment

Eric Hosmer Major League Debut custom cardEric Hosmer made the most high profile major league debut for the Royals this season. It came in Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City on May 8, 2011 against the Oakland Athletics. He went 0-2 with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts, one of which was a called third strike that clearly was a ball. He also stole a base in that game and started a nice double play as well.

2011 Topps Mike Moustakas custom card   4 comments

Mike Moustakas 2011 ToppsRoyals top prospect Mike Moustakas got the call and will make his major league debut tonight in California. I have to be honest, I really thought that it would be September before Mike Moustakas and Eric Hosmer both were in the Kansas City lineup. I am happy, this adds excitement to the Royals who realistically haven’t been exciting for a very long time.

This card of Moustakas is from my spring training custom set. The call-up actually means that Mike Moustakas will have a real card in the Topps update set this year! That doesn’t come out until September-October but I can’t wait to try to pull a Hosmer or Moustakas rookie card out of the set.

Everybody is throwing out predictions for Moustakas’ first game, here is mine: 1-3 2B, RBI, 1 BB, 1K.

1983 Topps Eric Hosmer custom card   2 comments

1983 Topps Royals Eric Hosmer custom cardAlright, this is my favorite card from my 1983 Topps tribute Royals set. I think it is a great shot of the hot young rookie for the Royals. Hosmer had his first career walk-off hit today so I figured it was only fitting to post this card. Hopefully this win will slingshot the Royals back into playing decent baseball again. Oh yeah, don’t look now but this was a 3rd consecutive really good outing for Joakim Soria. Please don’t rush to get him back to the closers role though, make sure he is comfortable before that happens.

Bringing back 1983 Topps; the Royals edition, Matt Treanor & Luke Hochevar   Leave a comment

1983 Topps Royals Matt Treanor custom card1983 Topps Royals Luke Hochevar custom cardI’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, now, 1983 is a really good looking set. With the inset mugshots they are difficult to re-create but they are well worth it. They just look so good when they are all put together. I posted a “History of Joakim Soria” version of 1983 Topps and promised more would be coming. Until now there hadn’t been any. After Alcides Escobar’s and Billy Butler’s heroics yesterday I decided it was time.

I chose Matt Treanor and Luke Hochevar to start the posting of the set pretty much randomly. I think Treanor’s card is my second favorite from the set. I completed the whole set all in one sitting last night. I made all 30 players to appear in a Kansas City Royals uniform so far in 2011. I couldn’t complete #31 Felipe Paulino because of a lack of pictures but was able to do everybody else. I am going to start posting these often to get the set out there. I really like them and will be posting a couple times a day with them probably. Look out for Eric Hosmer’s card it is absolutely badass, it is the best of the set. I’ll probably post cards according to who performs well during the game to make it interesting. If Hosmer knocks one out, look for his card to be up within about 15 minutes.
