2011 Mustangs: Patrick Burkhart   Leave a comment

2011 Mustangs Patrick BurkhartThis is why you start taking pictures early in the season kids…Patrick Burkhart is now hurt and I’m guessing by his mobility in the dugout that he won’t play again this year. I was impressed with what I saw out of him the few times I got to see him play. Hopefully he will return to St. Joe next year for a better look.

2011 Mustangs: Andrew Nellestein   Leave a comment

2011 Mustang sAndrew NellesteinAndrew Nellestein didn’t play Monday night, the local catcher doesn’t see a lot of time with TJ Daily and Landinn Eckhart ahead of him at the position. The Mustangs did win 7-1 thanks to a strong start by Jayson Huett and two doubles by Brent Seifert. Seifert drove in 3 runs on those two hits. It seems he always gets hits with runners in scoring postition. Huett got the win and is now 3-0 with an impressive 2.13 ERA.

1983 Topps Mustangs Brent SeifertI saw the picture of Brent on the Mustangs facebook page for the mugshot and paired it with my shot of him trotting around the bases after drilling a 3-run shot over the party deck last week. I am a huge fan of both Seifert and 1983 Topps cards so I really wanted to do this one.

History of Joakim Soria: 1984 Topps   5 comments

History Of Joakim Soria 1984 Topps custom cardIt has been way too long since my last “History of Joakim Soria” post. I have a lot more years ready to go I just get distracted with my other projects and don’t get them posted enough. This post is dedicated to 1984 Topps. Definitely one of Topps classic designs but I am not a huge fan of it. I actually consider it the retarded cousin of 1983 Topps. 1983 Topps had a smooth, curvy design with the nice inset picture and Topps tried to go back to the same design template and just square things up. It ends up being too rigid in my opinion. I also do not like the font for the team name or the pink background behind the mugshot. I’ve picked on it enough, it is still a classic Topps design no matter my opinion. I like the picture here and how it fits on the card, I’ve often said how much I like pictures that are a little unusual and this one fits the bill. Look for another “History of Joakim Soria” installment soon.

2011 Mustangs: Jeff Roy   Leave a comment

2011 Mustangs Jeff RoyJeff Roy hit a long 2-run home run off the top of the party deck to help the Mustangs win 9-3 last night against the Joplin Outlaws. Brent Seifert (like he always does) also produced with a 2-run double to get the Mustangs on the board and he ended the game 2-4 with 3 RBI. Seifert is up to a very impressive .340 average now.

Mark Robinette continued his scoreless streak on the mound by pitching a scoreless 9th inning after playing 8 innings at third base. Robinette also made the best defensive play of the year for the Mustangs last night. He was playing in, about even with the bag, and the leadoff batter of the inning sent a rocket right down the third base line. Robinette snags it on a full headfirst dive and throws the runner out at first. Needless to say, Mark Robinette is a very impressive ball player.

2011 Mustangs Mark RobinetteMark Robinette has been a very good addition for the Mustangs this season. Last night he had a huge game winning pinch-hit 2-run single against Clarinda. He is batting .318 overall. He doesn’t play every day because of Brent Seifert at third base. Oh yeah, he pitches too. So far Robinette has yet to give up a run in 11 1/3 innings pitched this year and is allowing less than one base-runner per inning on the mound.
