2012 Spring Training Royals: Irving Falu   Leave a comment

Irving Falu has spent a few years “one call away” now for the Kansas City Royals. He will likely never be a starting shortstop or second baseman in the big leagues over a long stretch but has the potential to be an excellent utility man. The Royals signed Yuniesky Betancourt over the offseason to fill that role so it looks like once again Falu will remain “one call away.” I am not a Yuni fan (like most Royals fans) so I hope Falu finds his way to the majors in 2012. I think he is a more adequate backup for the infield positions than Yuni defensively and that is typically what you want in a utility guy, not offense. Irving Falu 2012 Topps Spring Training custom card

So Alcides Escobar was locked down by the Royals today through at least 2015. I’ll just say this: I love this signing.Alcides Escobar 2012 Topps Spring Training custom card

History of Joakim Soria: 2012 Topps   2 comments

So its been a long while with activity on this website. I’d planned on keeping up my torrid pace by posting football cards during the baseball off-season but I quickly found that my love for football pales in comparison for my love of baseball. I lost interest quickly. February brings a couple things baseball back; pitcher and catchers report to spring training to officially get things started and Topps releases their new line of baseball cards.

With 2012 Topps the Royals got 11 base set players included so it was a little fodder to get me pumped up for the season. The design gets low grades from me. It isn’t horrible but I don’t have a lot to say about it that is good. It is bare-bones Topps. A lot of room for picture is always nice but it is straight out boring other than that. Topps cards almost always grow on me so in July I may rave about the 2012 set, I don’t know yet. Since Joakim Soria was once again not included in the series 1 set it gave me an opportunity to make my card first again, like last year.

I’m hoping this will ignite my fire for custom baseball cards again. It will happen… it is just a matter of time. It has been a crazy and traumatic off-season for me personally so I’m ready to start to concentrate on something I love again. There have not been many great days for me since the Royals last played a game so I’m very much looking forward to watching them again. So here is the 2012 Topps custom card of Joakim Soria. May this the beginning of a great season…

Bringing back 1983 Topps; the Royals edition, Matt Treanor & Luke Hochevar   Leave a comment

1983 Topps Royals Matt Treanor custom card1983 Topps Royals Luke Hochevar custom cardI’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, now, 1983 is a really good looking set. With the inset mugshots they are difficult to re-create but they are well worth it. They just look so good when they are all put together. I posted a “History of Joakim Soria” version of 1983 Topps and promised more would be coming. Until now there hadn’t been any. After Alcides Escobar’s and Billy Butler’s heroics yesterday I decided it was time.

I chose Matt Treanor and Luke Hochevar to start the posting of the set pretty much randomly. I think Treanor’s card is my second favorite from the set. I completed the whole set all in one sitting last night. I made all 30 players to appear in a Kansas City Royals uniform so far in 2011. I couldn’t complete #31 Felipe Paulino because of a lack of pictures but was able to do everybody else. I am going to start posting these often to get the set out there. I really like them and will be posting a couple times a day with them probably. Look out for Eric Hosmer’s card it is absolutely badass, it is the best of the set. I’ll probably post cards according to who performs well during the game to make it interesting. If Hosmer knocks one out, look for his card to be up within about 15 minutes.
